Hello and welcome to my portfolio. My name is Destiny Mitchell and I am from Seneca, Illinois. I am currently enrolled at Monmouth College. I am a Communication Studies major with a Media and Journalism Minor. I became interested in this field because I’ve always been intrigued in how people communicate with each other and also how businesses/corporations communicate with consumers. Studying this field has allowed me to look into the different theories and tactics used in communication and public relations to portray messages. Within this portfolio you will find examples of my work with reflections expanding on my knowledge in these areas.
Coming from a large family, communication was essential if you wanted to get your voice heard. Throughout my high school career I was involved in a variety of events including being on the speech team and working with a nonprofit organization Operation Snowball where I held leadership positions as teen staff. I stumbled into communication as my major my sophomore year after taking Mass Media in Modern Society and Multimedia and Production. Taking those classes in the same semester helped me to learn the history of media and gave me experience analyzing the media, working with cameras, script writing, and use of Adobe applications. In my undergrad, I also held executive positions for our college radio station and television station, WPFS and MCTV. I also was involved with the college newspaper The Courier.
My career goals are to either work with a broadcasting station or with with a marketing team. Either way, I would like to find where I fit best and excel in that job by working my hardest.
